Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow, says Melody Beattie in one of her books. Here, I would like to express my gratitude for being what I am today and letting you all know because what/who I am shaped for a good present and a better tomorrow. Looking back 7 years after I completed my B.E, I feel grateful for the following during my student days,

National Cadet Corps The place that is Tough and Strict and at the same time a place of Unity and Brotherhood. It taught me to stay grounded, accept reality, and cope with any situation we pass through. I have never been a runner or practiced running during my school days, but being a Cadet we used to run almost 3KMs around the campus roads during the parade days which gave me an opportunity to practice running. Today, running has been an active routine of mine and paved to way to do a half marathon. For the healthy routine of running and keeping myself fit, I owe all the credits to my NCC Seniors, Co-Cadets and Juniors.

Super 60 is the place that gave me an opportunity to explore the unexplored during the last year of my college days. It has made me a reader, writer and of course a speaker without hesitance or fear. The kind of resources they have brought, and the efforts they put on for each activity are truly eye opening and inspiring. Ever since I started reading books, I have completed reading more than 40 books now. Many thanks to Shankar Vanavarayar sir and Shobhana Kumar mam for this wonderful program and glad to be a part of first ever Super60 program on our campus.

Distribution of Relief Materials by Mr. Selvaraj Ayya, 2015.

Kumaraguru Action for Relief andEmpowerment(KARE) is an initiative that was started in the year 2015 during the time of floods in Chennai and Cuddalore. I was once again given the opportunity to be one of the first volunteers of this initiative and had an opportunity to work with some of the great personalities. One such personality is Mr. Selvaraj, Secretary of Sutha Sanmarga Nilayam, Vadalur. His energy, charisma and activeness even at the age of 65+ years were still inspiring and I have a great memory of working with them and playing shuttle with him in the early mornings. The learnings from here kept me active in social works post my college days in Chennai through various NGOs and Trusts.

After working 6 years in the professional field of Civil Engineering, I was given an opportunity to work in the same place that shaped me into what I am today 2 years back among the students along with my professional work. Working among the students is always a learning experience and keeps us young and enthusiastic. Happy that I was able to share some of my experiences with the 40th batch of KCT students this month in the same auditorium where I was sitting as a student years back and looking up to my future. Today, through the campus learnings and experience in the professional field I look forward to serving and empowering more students in the upcoming years.
