There is always an urge in me to write a motivational note, which can instil some confidence to the person who is reading. Hence I grabbed a chance which came during the lockdown through an NGO in which I'm volunteering. So the aim of the letter is to motivate a college student as brother and the letter goes like this.

Dear Sibling,

By the time you are reading this post, just know that few years back I’m also in the same situation of yours or slightly worse / better than yours. I get to know that you were doing your UG program now, probably in the pre final year or final year. Here, I’m going to tell you what are the fears and challenges I have faced during this stage and how I overcome it along with some of the facts that I realized so far.

The most usual fear that someone will encounter at this time is, fear of attending the interview especially when you are not confident of speaking in English. Yes, I do have this fear until I listen to the speech of Mr. Syed Sultan Ahmed and Mr. Arunachalam Muruganantham (Later his life is made as a film in the name of “Pad Man”). So, what I observed and learnt from his speech! English is just a medium of communication. What you have to look is, whether you can able to convey the information which you want someone to understand it. There is no necessity for knowing the pronunciation, grammar etc., and this boosted my confidence. Even though if you can’t able to speak in English, you should have the courage to accept it and proceed with your mother tongue. That’s how I did and got selected for a program called Super 60 during my college days.

Later I have improved my English by learning books and got selected in an MNC through campus recruit. Trust me! Reading books substantially helps you to understand English well and improve your choice of words while speaking. It is not necessary to create the habit of learning from childhood; you can start anytime if you have the eagerness and determination to do it. I’m putting myself as an example here. I have started reading books by the end of 2015, which is 6 months before when my college life is going to end. So far, I have read 27 books and 28th is in progress. Now I can able to speak English proficiently and can write any kind of reports which is assigned to me without worrying about the grammar etc., Here are some sayings on books which you have to know,

  • A person who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t read.

  • We become the books we read.

  • Your choice of life is determined by the books you choose.

This is the age of choosing and determining the kind of person whom you want to become, so watch your thoughts carefully. Always choose the right thoughts, right thoughts give’s you good character and a good character gives you a good life. Always aware, that “Your thoughts and feelings create your life”, what you think you become. Choose your thoughts wisely.

Spend some time during your routine to check and analyse the good habits you have (If don’t, make one). It can be of helping someone who is unknown to you, it can be watering plants or planting it, it can be playing a good game with good team etc., whatever it is irrespective of how big or how much it is valued. If you find something like that, don’t ever let it go from you. Try to do more of it and try to improve it, in the whole life process it gives you some great purpose and meaning at some point.

Be grateful to everyone you meet in your life. Because, you don’t know what you are going to learn from someone which helps for a lifetime. You don’t know when someone’s small help is going to mean you a lot. Similarly, you don’t know when someone requires your help. So always be ready to help, stay fit, be self-disciplined, think good and do good. When you have a desire to achieve something, make your goals progress oriented rather than result oriented. When you focus on the progress and keep improving on your progress, you will be rewarded with the result at the end of it. Don’t make failures as barriers for your desires and dreams. If you win - you have a result, if you fail - you have a learning. Trying will never make your hands empty. Always remember “Nothing is losing, except quitting”.

And before ending this letter please recall these things below,

  • Trust yourself.

  • Make reading as a habit.

  • Never let your good habits to shed off.

  • Be grateful for what you have.

  • Stay fit and be ready to help someone.

If you already have a habit of reading or thinking to start reading after this, please read “The Winning Way” written by Mr. Harsha Bogle.

And that's how the letter ends. If you think that this letter is needed for any of your bothers and sisters, please do share it them. Let us make everyone confident and positive.
